A Tiny Planets Adventure: Snow Problem

Tiny Planets Snow Day

Snow can be a lot of fun. You get to go sledding and skating. You can build snowmen. And best of all, you can have snowball fights! It’s hard to believe that water can be that much fun.

Yes, snow is just one of water’s many disguises.  When it’s a liquid you can drink it. When it’s a solid you can skate on it. And if you get it really hot you can see it float up into the air in the form of steam, which is a gas.

One day Bing and Bong were visiting the Tiny Planet of Nature. They had the opportunity to help a group of snow flockers to learn about water’s different forms. The Flockers took a shower they were using liquid water.

But then their water heater stopped working. So the liquid water turned into solid snow and ice. Brrr! You can watch how Bing and Bong saved the day in their video called “Snow Problem.”

Bing and Bong were happy to have helped their flocker friends and learned something new. How about you? Do you like to learn new things? I hope so because this month we’re going to investigate some of the the different ways we see water on planet Earth.

This week on the Tiny Planet of Technology Bing and I  tackle a GIANT problem! You see, we were looking for a little inspiration for our artwork and decided that the Planet of Technology just might be the ticket.

We jumped onto our comfy sofa and flew right over with our art supplies. Just as we were getting settled to paint and draw we saw five Flockers struggling to push a giant Flocker on a sled. And when I say “giant” I mean GIANT!

As we watched their progress, Bing slipped on colored pencils which had to the ground. Together we agreed to approach the Flockers about our idea to use rollers to move the monolith from one place to the other.

We tried it, but when the giant Flocker monolith falls off the end of the rollers, we realize that we haven’t thought the plan out as well as we thought. Since the rollers worked so well, we decided that the answer was more rollers. The extra rollers were delievered on a trolley, which has . . . wheels – aha!

We all pitched in and moved the Monolith onto the trolley and the Flockers were able to use the trolley wheels to pull it quickly and easily! Wheels are really wonderful don’t you think?

This week, we’re going to explore the wonderful world of wheels with lots of cool crafts and activities for you to try with your children.  Can’t wait to share them with you, so don’t be a stranger!

Beware the Scorpion in the Sky

Scorpius Constellation

Scorpius as depicted in Urania's Mirror, a set of constellation cards published in London c.1825.

Have you ever wondered why the Orion Nebula has a sword and a belt? Hmm, who uses a sword? A warrior! But what could this warrior be fighting in the sky?

Orion is they mythological warrior and hunter who was friends with the goddess Artemis. They would hunt together and have many adventures. Pretty cool deal to go hunting with a goddess, huh?

Unfortunately for Orion, he developed a really bad attitude. He thought that since he was such a good hunter that he should go and kill every animal on earth! Not cool at all. Continue reading
